Haven in the Hills

Beautiful furniture, very reasonable prices and the owner is vey warm and welcoming.

A beautiful place full of antiques and giftables where I always find something for home or for a friend.

Two weeks after moving to Nairne I was having a glass of wine with a neighbour and a good friend when both suddenly said to me in astonishment: “You haven’t been to Tanya’s shop yet?”. Needless to say my curiosity was piqued. Three months later my “never having been to Tanya’s” has morphed into our house risking becoming a “gallery full of Tanya stuff”: bright green Queen Anne glass cabinets; French provincial felt armchairs; an amazing black moody Balinese TV cabinet; and an array of colourful cushions that look as if they were conceived by some Pop artist during his or her Palace of Versailles phase. However, this shop also has rustic textures and warm tones to keep the more showy pieces in check. If a market researcher asked this customer to describe, what Tanya and Haven in the Hills are about I think I would choose words like “homely but charismatic” or “warm Maximalism”; and I would describe the owner as someone who cares about her pieces and where they end up. I can’t imagine Nairne’s Main Street without Haven’s shop front or the gorgeous objects that spill out onto the sidewalk. And, that Tanya and those who have participated in creating Haven have achieved this during the uncertainty of a pandemic is nothing short of amazing. Along with some of the other shops in the Adelaide Hills retail trail, a poster girl for the hashtags #love and #shop local.
