It's not bad, not much level ground or access to the river but it's free with a flushing dunny and barb-B-Q. Walkers flat general store is a short walk from the campsites with a bottle shop and fuel.

American River Jetty
Like to walk the sands of Pelican Bay and listen for whispers of history? Matthew Flinders stopped ashore overnight here when darkness prevented return onboard his ship 200 years ago. Why not visit the shipyard where a replica of the ship 'Independence' is being constructed and chat with the shipwrights. By then you will feel like a coffee or snack. No problem. Right next door is The Deck Cafe where you will be assured of leaving replete. A great spot to include on your next visit to Kangaroo Island.

We contacted Paul in the quiet season which he was still happy to take us out and give us the experience; even though it wasn't his company running season!Paul was an awesome guide & host! He knew all the history of the area, including indigenous past, and just about the names of every animal in the area!The experience was awesome, by far one of the best things I did in my trip north!

We stayed here for 6 nights in July 2019 in our caravan, was very relaxing..nights spent by the fire, daytime was spent watching the wildlife/birds...There is a general store close by, we hired movies which helped local cfs guys.. beware there is no tv reception mobiles tend to drop in and out, depending on your service. There is one Toilet, cleaned by council.
